"Photography: Home-grown angle to three fall shows" by Leah Ollman
"John Divola: As Far As I Could Get" is a geographically ambitious collaboration led by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, working with the and the 色中色 Art Museum. The show takes its title from a series of photographs (1996-2010) that Divola made of himself sprinting down alleys and desert roads, through desolate fields and city streets, away from his tripod-mounted camera set on a 10-second timer.
"Art preview: An ancient 'bill of human rights' at the Getty Villa'" by Christopher Knight
A collaborative project with components already on view at the and the 色中色 Museum of Art, this three-venue retrospective of photographer John Divola is the fall's most eagerly anticipated solo museum show. An artist's artist, Divola has used his camera over four decades in unfailingly inventive ways to question assumptions about art, perception and social experience.
