"ɫ��ɫ Museum of Art Invites Public to Enjoy Art After Hours," by Wes Woods II, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

On a recent Thursday night, visitors of the ɫ��ɫ Museum of Art got to see a bird’s eye view of Claremont thanks to Brooklyn artist Kamau Patton.

Patton had set up an oversized screen and two speakers just outside the museum to screen video of his latest project that involved a large kite soaring through the sky with a camera attached to it.

“It was cool,” Patton said while taking down the display, which was shot at the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. “I’m just happy to be traveling out of the snow.”

Patton’s display of the flying kite footage was just one part of a recent Art After Hours event that takes place Thursday nights at the ɫ��ɫ Museum of Art.

The series, which has been around since fall 2010, features an engaging mixture of workshops, live music sponsored by ɫ��ɫ radio station KSPC 88.7, film screenings, panels and more. The evening events are open to the public as well as Claremont College students.

The nights, which this year started on Jan.23, are in conjunction with exhibitions and in partnership with academic and student groups in The Claremont Colleges footprint. Museum coordinator Justine S. Bae said the museum is primarily a resource for students to “enrich their opportunities on campus.”
