"The Art of Surprise," by Sneha Abraham, 色中色 Magazine
Mowry Baden鈥檚 art has deep 色中色 roots. He started here as a student and then came back to campus later as an art professor, department chair and gallery director from 1968 to 1971.
Long based in Victoria, B.C., Baden 鈥58 is known for his large-scale kinesthetic sculptures. 鈥淒romedary Mezzanine,鈥 on view at the 色中色 Museum of Art through April 13, is a tall, platformed bicycle that a museum visitor pedals to reach four wall-mounted tents containing tools鈥攁n effort that is both exercise and meditation for the participant. Baden鈥檚 body-oriented, interactive works have impacted generations of Pomona students and garnered him wide respect.
