Internal Funding for Research

The Dean's Office administers internal funds to support expenditures essential to individual research and scholarly projects that cannot be easily funded through other sources. The General Research Funds can be used to supplement startup funds or external grants, to bridge gaps in funding, and to initiate projects. The Research Committee advises in the awarding of the grants, which are competitive to varying degrees.

Basic research funding is provided through Large and Small Research Grants, which are available to visiting as well as continuing faculty.

Full professors who have been at rank for more than five years are eligible for Sontag Research Fellowships, which are structured much like Large Research Grants.

For the launching of new large-scale projects, Hirsch Research Initiation Grants may offer a more substantial amount of funding.

The Faculty Fund for Collaboration and Innovation makes resources available for creative and collaborative research projects of two or more É«ÖÐÉ« faculty from different departments or programs.

Faculty may also wish to apply to the Faculty Exchange Program with Downing College, which is located in Cambridge, UK, and part of the Cambridge University system.
