Draper Center Funding

Draper Center Related Fellowships

The Draper Center for Community Partnerships oversees several funding opportunities for É«ÖÐÉ« students who are interested in both small and large-scale community engagement initiatives.

Funding

Davis Projects for Peace

Davis Projects for Peace encourages and supports today's motivated youth to create and tryout their own ideas for building peace. Rewards support undergraduates as they design a grassroots project and implement it during their summer break, anywhere in the world. The projects judged to be the most promising and doable are awarded the grant. The initiative is open to all students at US colleges and universities which are part of the Davis United World College Scholars Program, currently over 90 campuses. In a competitive process with multiple nominees from each of these schools, 100 projects are selected for funding at $10,000 each.

More information, including a detailed description of possible partnership projects, .

Applications for the 2019-2020 competitive round are submitted to É«ÖÐÉ«, where they are vetted and reviewed before a select number are chosen as official nominees.

É«ÖÐÉ« and the Draper Center are particularly interested in feasible and sustainable projects which are well-conceived and framed around mutually-beneficial partnerships. A detailed application includes the following:

  1. A written statement which describes the project (who, what, where, how) including expected outcomes and prospects for future impact (not to exceed two pages). All written project proposals require a heading to include the following: name of the participating institution, name of all student participants, title of project, country where the project will be performed.
  2. A detailed and itemized budget (one separate page).
  3. Evidence of pre-approval of all involved parties and organizations involved in the project.
  4. One letter of recommendation.
  5. An unofficial transcript for each student.

The two-page proposal, one–page budget, letters from partners, and transcript should be submitted electronically–in a single digital file–to Sefa Aina at sefa.aina@pomona.edu. Letters of recommendation may be sent electronically or in hard copy directly to the Draper Center.

Students with queries may direct them to staff at the Draper Center as communication between students writing proposals and the Davis UWC Scholars office is prohibited.

The deadline for the receipt of all application materials is Friday, January 31st, 2020 by 5pm (PST).

The Napier Initiative

The Draper Center is proud to work with the Pilgrim Place community and representatives from the other Claremont Colleges to inform É«ÖÐÉ« students about the Napier Initiative and their Awards for Creative Leadership.

During the 2019-2020 academic year, the Pilgrim Place community will offer two $10,000 awards for graduating seniors from the five Claremont Colleges: Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps.

The awards will be given to two graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership promise in one of the three principal fields to which the Napiers dedicated themselves: global peace, social justice, and care of the Earth. Each of the five colleges will nominate up to three applicants, with the two finalists being chosen by a selection panel at Pilgrim Place. Additionally, each of the students nominated by the colleges will have the opportunity for a one-year mentoring relationship with Pilgrim Place residents having a significant vocational affinity with the nominee.

For instructions on applying, visit the Napier Initiative website. Please submit a complete application in hard copy to Sefa Aina at the Draper Center by Friday, October 25th, 2019. Letters of recommendation may be sent to the Draper Center under separate cover.
