Letter from the First-Year Class Dean

Dear Class of 2027,

Welcome to É«ÖÐÉ«! I am Joelle Balthazar, your first-year class dean. I am excited to meet you this fall and walk alongside as you experience one of the biggest transitions of your life.

My hope is to be a resource to you as you begin to set the foundation for your Pomona journey. I am looking forward to hearing from you all about ways in which I can support you as you begin classes this fall semester.

I would also like to take this opportunity to share a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and this is my third academic year working at Pomona. In my spare time, I love to read and listen to podcasts. What I enjoy the most about being the first-year class dean is the one-on-one interactions with my students. I am passionate about encouraging students to explore all their academic interests and getting involved on campus through clubs and activities. Pomona is a remarkable institution that provides opportunities for growth for every Sagehen. Together we will find ways to set the groundwork for a meaningful time at the College. Throughout the year, I’ll be hosting a variety of programs so that you all can get to know one another, and me. Please know that I encourage your feedback and am open to any ideas you may have on how to make this the smoothest transition possible.

Again, welcome and I am looking forward to meeting you in person in August!

Sincerely,

Joelle Balthazar

First-year Class Dean
